Flinter
Flinter Shipping, the fifth largest ship-owner in The Netherlands, operates 40 vessels (1,500-10,000 metric tons deadweight) in the dry bulk market. The company’s main trading areas are in the Atlantic Basin, The Baltic, the Mediterranean, the U.S. East Coast, the Great Lakes, Canada and the Caribbean.
Previously the company had been using Excel but it was not scalable enough to handle their projected growth. Flinter needed an integrated, solid platform to provide voyage calculations and monitor day-to-day operations. Managing vessel contracts and time charters, and the ability to report to shareholders and/or clients (the Captain-Owners) were also key requirements. Marco deVriend, Chartering Manager, Flinter Shipping, explains: “We needed chartering, operations and accounting solution that would act as a ‘spider in the web’ – interconnecting everything into a cohesive, strong network.”
Flinter initially purchased 15 IMOS licenses and has now added 10 more. DeVriend notes: “On the commercial business side, there is now one database from which to run consolidated reports in real-time. The fleet schedule allows the staff to instantly view which cargos and vessels are currently in use, which are financially closed and which are still open. The Pooling Summary, P&L Summary and TCI Summary are crucial, allowing us to send daily profitability reports to our Captain-Owner clients. Overall, IMOS streamlines our work processes so that we can focus on our business objectives.”
