Executive Team
John D Veson – President
John D. Veson leverages his technology expertise and experience in the maritime industry to deliver cutting-edge software solutions for commercial maritime organizations throughout the world. He guides the company’s growth into new markets and regions—and spearheads strategic alliances with customers and partners.
John has been part of Veson Nautical since 1992 and was instrumental in creating the architecture for the company’s flagship Integrated Maritime Office System (IMOS). He also designed the Port-to-Port Distance calculation engine, which is part of the Fairplay World Shipping Encyclopedia which is used by thousands of customers.
Prior to joining the company—which was founded by his father, Michael Veson—John managed multi-million dollar consulting projects for Microsoft Corporation, including the design and implementation of a handheld trading system for Goldman Sachs and the New York Stock Exchange.
John earned his degree in computer science and economics with honors from Brown University. He also holds an MBA from Harvard University. He currently lives in Boston with his wife and two children.
Eva Douzinas – Director of Marketing and Operations
Eva Douzinas joined the company in 2003, bringing hands-on experience in the maritime industry and extensive marketing expertise. She leads the company’s marketing, lead generation, and communications efforts, refines the company’s product mix, defines new solutions, and evaluates new markets. She also directs customer outreach efforts and financial administration for Veson’s U.S. division.
Prior to joining the company, Eva worked at Nautical Technology Corporation, where she gained valuable expertise in maritime software corporate and product marketing, as well as customer care. Eva also worked as an investment researcher in the technology sector at Sanford Bernstein in New York, analyzing technology market trends.
Eva holds a degree in economics from Wesleyan University. She earned her MBA, with a concentration in marketing and management/organizational behavior, from New York University.
Shuang Tang – Software Engineering Director
A noted technologist, Shuang Tang is responsible for running the ongoing research and development operations for IMOS. One of his key areas of focus includes building interfaces between the Veson IMOS system and third-party programs. Shuang leads successful technical customization and integration efforts for key clients.
Shuang brings more than a fifteen years of software research and development expertise to Veson Nautical. As Software Engineering Director, Shuang has been the driving force behind a number of key technical innovations at the company, including the primary development of the IMOS Operations module. Shuang also created a flexible P&L model that is still in use today.
Shuang holds a Bachelor of Science in physics from the University of Science & Technology, China, as well as a Ph.D. in physics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Jamie Sheldon – Director of Product Management
Jamie Sheldon is an experienced technology strategist who helps set the direction for the company and its best-in-class products. He works with the management team to define, position, and market the company’s product line. He is responsible for introducing products into new market areas, as well as for creating an ongoing strategic product roadmap.
Jamie has a 20-year track record of success in the technology marketplace. Previously, he provided consulting services—ranging from solution strategy to product line rationalization—at Centric Software. Jamie also co-founded and later served as Director of Product Management for Framework Technologies, based in Milwaukee, WI and Burlington, MA.
Jamie earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He also attended the MIS Professional Program at the University of Wisconsin School of Business.
Fredrik Knutsen – Business Development Director
Fredrik Knutsen manages all North and South American-based new business development and customer care functions. His wide range of experience in the corporate and shipping industries spans more than a dozen years. An expert at driving top and bottom line performance from a sales perspective, Fredrik is also well versed in the operational, technological and logistical aspects of the commercial maritime shipping business.
Most recently, Fredrik was Manager of Vessel Operations and Logistics/IT for United Bulk Carriers based in Wayne, PA. During his tenure there, he was responsible for the operational management of 20 dry cargo vessels and the IT department. He was a lead contributor to record high $130M+ earnings in 2004.
Fredrik earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA.
George Giovas - Director of Europe/Middle East
Based in Veson’s offices in Athens, Greece, George is responsible for leading all sales and operations activities in Europe and the Middle East, as well as developing a strong partner network for the company. His charter includes growing Veson’s presence within the Greek shipping industry, as well as managing Veson’s customer care program throughout the region.
George is a seasoned executive in the shipping and engineering industries with a strong background in operations and a deep understanding of technology. Since joining the company in 2005, George has applied this expertise to help Veson quickly gain a strong foothold in the EMEA region.
Previously, George was one of the original management team members of Nautical Technology Corporation and ABS Nautical Systems. George earned a Master of Science degree from Rutgers University.
