In 1984, Veson pioneered the first automated port-to-port distance table. Today, thousands of people rely on Veson's Distance tables every day to calculate distances from points and ports around the world. Our Distances engine includes over 8,000 ports and 30 million routes that allow you to calculate the optimal voyage routing based on your routing preferences.
Veson Nautical's Online Distances with high resolution nautical charts and our Distances Web Service provide a convenient way to calculate distances, estimate sailing days, and optimize
voyage routing.
Veslink Online Distances Enterprise Edition with High Resolution Nautical
Charts & Point to Point / Port Distances
Veson offers companies greater ability to analyze routes, incidents, and alternative options through integration with Jeppesen nautical charts with high resolution zoom (1:15,000). The greater zoom level allows you closely analyze the estimated or planned route of a vessel, plan voyages to chart the best possible course for a voyage, analyze incident sites, limit environmental impact, and improve routing efficiency by taking restrictions and separation lines into account.
This service provides sophisticated point-to-port and point-to-point distance calculation, whereby the origin or destination is a point (specified in latitude and longitude coordinates) rather than a port. This feature leverages Veson’s proprietary voyage routing algorithms to give you more accurate distances when calculating route deviations or sailings on demand.
Distances are calculated in nautical miles between the origin and destination ports for the calculated route. Positions and ports that the calculated route pass through are specified in degrees of latitude and longitude. The engine calculates different routes based on such factors as vessel draft and direction of travel. Total miles traveled in the low sulfur region of Northern Europe are also available.
Veslink Distances Web Service
The Veslink Distances Web Service automates distance retrieval capability for use in a custom or third party system.
The Distances Web Service allows you to specify routing preferences such as minimum vessel depth and vessel speed, and leverage fleet flexibility for serving specific ports and trade routes. In addition, it is possible to specify regional preferences for routes associated with your regularly scheduled sailings, or avoid high-risk regions.
Distances are easily retrieved by the service by port name, UN Code, Port ID or even just latitude/longitude positions. New ports are continuously added on the request of clients.
